Universe and Style~

What's crazy is when you take the time to build a solid foundation, progress on the actual structure goes really fast. Things shaped up far quicker than I anticipated, things being:

  • Drawing and implementing backgrounds and navigation buttons
  • Formatting the base of Universe
  • Formatting World entries inside Universe

Working on this chunk has been the most exciting 'cause I'm finally seeing the site look like how I imagined it. Everything just fell into place so easily.

I was originally gonna use a pixel-art style for everything, but after looking at the sketches for the backgrounds, I went "yeah okay I'm doing this instead." My drawing style tends to lean towards this resolution anyway, so it'll look more cohesive in the long run.

I'll prolly tinker with Universe more(the scaling doesn't look very nice), but we'll see. Until next time!

Foundation Built!

I have emerged from the layout caves with a new companion that I hope will stay with me for a while: everyone say hi to grid template. While there still are more higher tech thing planned for Home, for all intents and purposes I'd say it's skeleton has been properly laid out. Not only that, but I sucessfully made the structure apply to updates too! We're no longer in flexbox hell, so you can actually read it! Yaay!

I'm now using Visual Studio Code to edit my site, so I have more control over updates on Neocities, which is nice. I don't like the feed spam of editing directly in Neocities. So secretly I have:

  • Established overall site layout framework
  • Fit home and updates pages to that framework
  • Tested pixel image with non-smoothing scaling
  • Poked a few elements to be better lookin

I now feel comfortable enought to start tackling the real bread and butter of this site: Universes! I'm still deciding on the layout for that, but even if it's not final, it's better to have something than nothing.

I think I can start drawing a few assets now too. Eeeee I'm pumped. I'm so pumped to be making this.

Well, this is awkward

Hey, uh, things look a little different since last time...

I'll keep it brief since it's kinda hard to read this. I'm battling flex boxes in CSS, and have not won yet. Wish me luck.

Home Page Formatting

I woke up at 4am the other day, and couldn't go back to sleep for a full hour and a half because I was busy thinking about this website. Safe to say, I was quick to do more stuff.

I now have the Home site planned completely down to what specific funtionality and formatting I want, and a design for Universes that I'm less confident about but still going to work towards until I think of something better. Late one night I made designs for what a specific Universe page would look like, then a Story and Varient page(terminology for how I'm partitioning my worlds and stories), but those I'm even less confident about, and will probably scrap altogether.

I have a very specific vision in how I want this site to be experienced, but executing that is the real question. Ideally I want it to feel like an adventure: exploring strange worlds and meeting intriguing characters wherever you heart desires. In practice, how do you make things organic and mystical yet intuitive enough to not get lost?? I have a long road ahead of me it seems.

Design and philosiphy aside, what's changed since last time?

  • Reformatted Home page into columns
  • Fixed navigation as a sidebar
  • Added links to learning resources I keep returning to

Half of my time spent was just scrolling through W3 Schools trying to figure out how to keep the columns from overlapping from one another. The current fix I have will probably not make it past the next update since it breaks the moment I fix the postion on any column. But! It's a step closer.

I've drawn some sketches of character fullbodies, though how exactly I will render them still remains to be seen. Regardless, a very fruitful 2 days!

And So it Begins...

...years after this site was made. But honestly, I don't think that changes anything. I wanted to make this site back then, and I still do now. A now, I have the drive to act on that desire, so here we are! Welcome to Kudzu-Verse!

Here I will be updating what I added, altered, or removed from this site. This is both for whoever wants to keep up with this site(if so, hiiii I'm honored), and to make the construction of this more of a journey than a forever work-in-progress. I may be motived now, but who knows where I will be tomorrow? Next week? A year? Regardless of where I am, the work I did will remain here.

So let's begin with what I have made today!

  • Resorted the files within my neocities edit page, and updated each image file path accordingly
  • Added the pages UNIVERSES, CAST, and UPDATES
  • Added a navigation panel to all pages connecting to one another
  • Updated the css stylesheet
  • Added an update card to make this!

I have so many things I want to begin to do with this site, but I'm unsure if I should first focus on looks or start inputting information right away. I know in the long-term I want to draw a lot of assets to use, though what exact style is the question for now. Regardless, I'm happy with where this is now. Farewell!

Note: Yes I do see the irony in reviving this on April Fool's Day
